The Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime of a controversial Game 5, with Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve saying that the championship was "stolen" from their team due to poor calls and officiating.
I’m sorry but that wasn’t a foul! Let the damn players dictate the outcome of a close battled tested game. 🤦🏾♂️

To soak up even more of that NY glory, here's a look at some of the best reactions to the Liberty's win:
Journalist Frankie de la Cretaz tweeted about former Liberty players, Sue Wicks and Teresa Weatherspoon, getting emotional while watching their team finally win:
Sue Wicks and Teresa Weatherspoon celebrating the Liberty's first WNBA Championship was my favorite part about last night. How can you not be romantic about women's basketball? pic.twitter.com/5OYfcZpjro

Bleacher Report journalist Molly Morrison talked about her love and appreciation for the WNBA:
i grew up in a city that didn’t have a WNBA team and had never been to a game.
— Molly Morrison (@mollyhannahm) October 21, 2024
since i moved to NYC 2 years ago, i’ve had the opportunity to not only go to but work several liberty games. what i’ve experienced at those games: the passion, the inclusivity, the love — has been so… pic.twitter.com/Mr3rrNMmWj
Sports writer Jane McManus tweeted about the importance of the Liberty's new ownership transforming the team's fanbase:
The Liberty team played in the 2,000 seat Westchester County Center for years because an owner did not care about the WNBA. Look at the Barclays, see what new ownership and investment can do.
— Jane McManus (@janesports) October 21, 2024
Here's a look at the new owner, Clara Tsai, talking about that same sentiment:
“When we bought the team four years ago, they were playing at Westchester County Center to a crowd of 2,000.” - owner Clara Tsai
