The Internet Has So Many Opinions On This Simple Phone Call From A Bakery Ruining This Couple's Gender Reveal

"Imagine paying $$, walking into a bakery with a sealed envelope from a doctor, curating a whole special, intimate moment with you & your partner... just to have some random careless woman ruin it with a single voicemail."

Nowadays, many people enjoy doing something special for their baby's gender reveal. I've seen everything from people setting off fireworks in pink or blue to others cutting into a cake to reveal the color inside.

Since it's usually a surprise for the couple (and family and friends), nothing is worse than someone ruining that surprise — especially if it's a stranger. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to this couple, who explained what happened in a TikTok video that was reposted on Twitter where it generated A LOT of conversation.

A bakery just ruined her gender reveal by leaving a voicemail saying they didn’t have blackberries for the filling.

She had asked for blackberries for a boy and raspberries for a girl. The bakery had one job…. pic.twitter.com/hMnZhWlchd

In Ariel's (@morbidmama7) video, you can hear a voicemail from a bakery's cake decorator, who was supposed to make the surprise gender-reveal cake for Ariel and her boyfriend. The person leaving the voicemail says, "Please give me a call regarding your order. You ordered a single lemon with blackberry. We don't have blackberry filling. The only thing that actually makes the single lemon is the lemon curd. And you wanted gender reveal, so we need to talk about the cake..."

Woman with a playful expression; text reads: "I asked to add raspberries for a girl or blue/blackberries for a boy. Uh, you ordered a single lemon with blackberry."

As the voicemail plays in the video, text appears on top that further gives us context on this situation.: "I asked to add raspberries for a girl or blue/blackberries for a boy. It was supposed to be a secret (and they [the bakery] knew that)."

Woman with closed eyes; text reads: "It was supposed to be A SECRET (and they knew that). The only thing that actually makes the lemon single lemon."

"After I received the voicemail, which I tried to skip but couldn't, I was gutted. My partner and I curated a cute little moment to share together, and the cake decorator seemed to not care. We immediately called them back and asked for a refund," Ariel told BuzzFeed.

Woman with hair in a bun, serious expression, wearing a casual shirt. Text overlay: "Please give me a call regarding your order."

Ariel continued by telling us, "We asked to add certain fruits for a girl and certain fruits for a boy in the middle. We gave alternatives to our first choices. And to top if off, the bakery is also a smoothie/juice bar, and they definitely had all our choices available, which the owner confirmed via text."

After many calls and texts with the owner and employees, the bakery gave Ariel a full refund and still made her cake. "But when my boyfriend picked it up, it took the poor workers another 15 minutes just to find it — which tells you that the decorator definitely didn't care," she said.

Obviously, the internet had A LOT to say about Ariel's story. Her TikTok video has almost 2 million views, and the Twitter repost has over 20 million views. Let's just say the very mixed opinions on this situation, honestly, really surprised me.

Man with a hand over his mouth, looking surprised

On TikTok, a lot of people fully supported Ariel's frustration, like this commenter.

Comment: "No because why couldn’t she just say, 'can you give us a call about your order?'" 3551 likes, 21 replies

This one too.

Comment: "Literally could have just said 'we don’t have the requested filling' and had you give substitutions for both." 13.7K likes

And this commenter brought up a valid point.

Comment: "Ultrasound tech here... A lot of times, people have a gender keeper for their reveal, so the baker may have assumed the keeper was ordering this for you."

But then, on Twitter, people had other strong opinions, to say the least.

Tweet by Clarity: "I'm so confused as to who it was ruined for—what, was she at the Dr's office and like 'don't tell me the sex, call my bakery'!?"

Easier said than done, sir!

Tweet by Daux: "She had a good 10 seconds to hang up before any info was revealed...like just hang up and use another designated number if it's that deep."

Idk about a simple mistake, buddy.
